Women's MinistryMy Dear Friends, As I said in my last letter, 2009 has been a tumultuous year in our country and our community. Many lives have been devastated by circumstances outside of their control. I personally have friends that are unemployed and lost their homes, friends dealing with life threatening illnesses, and friends dealing with children whose choices are breaking their mother's hearts. BUT ...God is still in control!. He has shown up in more ways and in more lives than I can count. As someone in ministry, I have the unique opportunity to walk with people through their struggles and have seen God strengthen and gird them up when all hope seemed lost. Our speaker for our Holiday Hospitality Dinner has such a story. Please put November 12th on your calendar as this will be an unforgettable night!
In the midst of these heartaches, I have never been more proud of Gateway. As Don has been preaching through Galatians, I have come to see that Gateway is truly a New Testament church. We are built on Jesus...and through Him, we are living out Galatians 5:13 which says," For dear brothers, you have been given freedom; not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other". I am so proud of the way Gateway has loved and served. Even though we have had our difficulties, we have continued to seek out ways to "love and to serve". In addition to those in our church family, the 300+ kids that received individual backpacks and school supplies have been served... the men at Oliver Gospel Mission have been served...the people in Chicago and Costa Rica have been served. Through the Holy Spirit, we have taken Jesus to our "Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and all the earth". I am so proud to be a part of THIS family of God!
The power to love, serve and to overcome is found in the word of God. I encourage you to enroll in one of our Bible studies. Knowing God's word is primary to living the "abundant life" that Christ offers. Take advantage of the opportunities to learn and to grow in your faith. You will not be disappointed! (Review our LIFEgroup catalog for information on the Bible Studies). A list of the various women's ministry groups, studies, and events is listed below.
With much love,
Mary Brock
